CHARACTER
NAME: Nakahara Chuuya
CANON: Bungou Stray Dogs
CANON POINT: Post chapter 49, before decay of angels.
AGE: 22
BACKGROUND: from the wiki

PERSONALITY: Extra. He's super extra.

For the more in-depth version:

Chuuya initially gives off the impression that he's a complete hothead: He rages at the slightest insult, and allows his emotions to rule him entirely, even falling for seemingly obvious traps. He loves a good fight, and will try to goad other peope into attacking him; and when he goes out drinking he ignores the fact that he's a lightweight, and inevitably ends up utterly wasted. And then he drunk-dials his ex-partner, embarrassing himself all over again.

For those who pay just a little bit more attention, though, it's obvious that this isn't the full story. When Chuuya first shows up in the manga, his ex-partner Dazai is being held prisoner by the Port Mafia. Chuuya shows up gloating, mocking him for his current situation, outright enjoying the sight of Dazai in chains. And then he calls bullshit. If Dazai is caught, he says, it's because he wanted to be. And while Chuuya still revels in this chance to take out his anger on Dazai - even releasing him from his chains to have a proper fight - he also focuses on getting Dazai's actual plan out of him.

It's likely that Chuuya was always naturally someone who was open with his emotions, and who always showed his honest reactions. However, that kind of personality won't do well in an organization like the Port Mafia. He's been trained for years to think before he acts, to take in the situation as a whole, and to try to come up with a course of action that will best benefit the Mafia. While he still presents himself as a hothead, he will stop on a dime, showing himself to be in control even in the middle of a fight.

Well. Usually. His rash and emotional tendencies are still there - You just have to know which buttons to push.

Part of Chuuya's problem lies in his view of people: he believes, 100%, in loyalty. He's loyal to the Port Mafia, to his boss, and to his subordinates. To him, that situation should be an unchanging constant. And he shows that in the way he takes care of everyone: A supposed prideful hothead like him kneels in front of his boss without question, always showing him proper respect. And he takes care of his subordinates, buying them drinks and taking them to hot springs, but also chastising them as needed.

People trust and respect Chuuya, and his loyalty to those around him inspires equal loyalty in return.

But he struggles with betrayal. Dazai left four years ago, and Chuuya still shows no signs of getting over it. Betrayal, to him, is unforgivable - And that makes it a weakness. It blinds him to the larger picture. Dazai's betrayal wasn't entirely out of the blue, because he had always been unhappy in the mafia. But to Chuuya it was unthinkable, and so it hit him out of the blue.

It did teach him an important lesson. Again, Chuuya needs to get better at seeing the whole picture, and to not take situations for granted. It in no way broke his belief in loyalty and trust, but he's more likely to look a bit closer at what's truly going on now. He hates being caught unawares. It's made him more bitter, and it's telling that he now seems to prefer working alone.

But loyalty isn't always straightforward. Chuuya swore his loyalty to his boss, but he'll sometimes prioritize his subordinates instead. We see this when Q, a child under the protection of his boss, gets kidnapped. Q has a power which hurts - and kills - everyone who has hurt him, and he's unable to control it himself. The enemy uses this power and amplifies it, meaning it targets a large number of people across the city. Several of Chuuya's subordinates end up dying as a result.

His boss wants Q brought back alive. But when Dazai suggests killing him instead, Chuuya makes no move to stop him, because the thought of all his dead subordinates makes him angry. It doesn't matter if Q can control his power or not, he's a threat to the people Chuuya is responsible for. This also shows that uh, Chuuya isn't exactly a good person. He's killed countless people while working for the mafia, and doesn't feel any remorse about it. His organization kidnaps people, deals in weapons, smuggling, etc. It rules the Yokohama underworld. And Chuuya is one of its top leaders - his hands are more than dirty. On the other hand, he's also the guy who'll make sure a baby is reunited with its parents. He kills when he believes there's a reason.

But it's not like innocent people never get caught in the crossfire. He know it, and he can live with it.

And I did say that he's extra. He takes pride in his appearance, wears a hat with a little dangling chain, and a coat that he only drapes across his shoulders. Because Fashion. He always makes a grand entrance, and no one would be surprised if entrance music started playing whenever he appeared. He specifically requests fight music at one point.

If that's not dramatic enough, why not make his coat magically flare up around him. I mean, if you have the power to manipulate gravity, what else would you use it for??

And that's Chuuya: A loyal mess wrapped in a package of diva, just trying to keep up with what's going on. Please just give him something to punch.

POWERS/ABILITIES: Chuuya is an excellent martial artist (the best in the mafia, which is saying something), and he's good with a knife. Additionally, he seems to be serving as the Port Mafia Boss' right-hand man: He's sent out to handle issues arising in areas outside of Yokohama, and trusted to act on the Port Mafia's behalf. When the boss is out of commission, it's Chuuya who takes on the role of acting boss. It can be assumed that he's been trained in various forms of strategic thinking, and knows how to properly run an illegal business. He's also the kind of leader who naturally inspires loyalty.

In short: a hothead he might be, but he (usually) knows how to control himself for the greater good.

As for actual powers, he has a god of calamity sealed inside of him. It gives him a power called 'for the tainted sorrow,' which allows him to manipulate gravity. What this means more specifically is:

- He can jump really high, and fall from even greater heights without damage
- Or just outright walk on air particles
- And he lands like an explosion
- And causes the ground to crack around him even while staying still
- He can seriously pack a punch
- He can pick up heavy objects like they weigh nothing (because he makes them weigh next to nothing)
- He can make things weigh more than they should, and for example make a person unable to move
- Bullets are 100% ineffective, don't even bother
- He can walk on the ceiling
- He can make his hat and coat stay in place on a windy day

It should be noted that he has to touch an object to affect it, although once he does, the effect can last a while even if he lets go (he states once it will last 'until morning,' although in that case it turned out the person targeted could shake off the effect).

His ability's true form, however, is honestly terrifying. It's called 'corruption,' and is activated by Chuuya dramatically taking off his gloves and reciting:

O' Grantors of Dark Disgrace
Do not wake me again

Chuuya only ever activates this in extreme emergencies, and only if someone (Dazai) is around to nullify the power. This is because the longer he is in that state, the less control he has, and after a while he'll just attack everything in sight. And then he'll die.

But what he can do in this state is:

- Crush a tank with his bare hands
- Pick up giant apartment buildings like he's superman
- Manipulate the density of himself and objects he's touching to an even larger degree
- And even affect things close around him that he isn't touching
- Throw around black holes that will swallow anything they come into contact with

He's extremely destructive when Corruption is activated, even if I estimate he'd only be able to last about 5-10 minutes before it kills him. It's not something I'll ever have him use in game without careful plotting and mod permission.
